Polo Rolls
This polo event at Rose Hill just outside of Hilton Head South Carolina brings together beautiful cars, beautiful horses, beautiful clothes, and the artist sought to capture them all on canvas. On describing why the Rolls in the foreground is not only included but featured most prominently, the artist explains the car is part of the experience and that “somewhere there’s a ‘horsepower’ play on words.” Lovely intentionally pictures members of the viewing audience as “paying more attention to each other than the game” and celebrates that as the draw and greatest enjoyment of the moment, attempting to capture that feeling in paint. “You bring your car, tailgate, picnic, enjoy the ambiance,” Lovely quips, “money might not buy happiness but it does buy nice cars, polo ponies, and wonderful lunches.”
