Two Women at Olivier’s
One of Lovely’s more rare, muted, darker-toned pieces, Two Women at Olivier’s was painted onsite while patrons dined at the Hilton Head Island establishment named in the title. Encouraged to paint in-restaurant by Olivier’s owner, Lovely set up an easel and challenged herself to capture images quickly before the moment changed to stay true to her passion and style of “painting from life.” The artist describes, “starting in blue and adding colors as ultra-marine blue is a very forgiving color.” Layering images over her foundation of sketches and blues, this piece includes a “painting within a painting,” as one of Lovely’s previous works, hanging above the table, is featured in the top of the frame.
