Merit of Elegance

Oil on Linen

A still life of the “Three Graces” is portrayed here.  At the time I created this under the tutelage of Paul Ingbretson.   I particularly remember his comment while setting up the ribbon, “This is a dance, so make the ribbon dance too.”

The best lesson I learned is that when a contrasting shape, (like the highlight on the ribbon meeting a shadow on the table), the edge becomes “found” and “hard”, but when two like forms meet (like two shadows), the edge is then “lost” and “soft”.
