Lovely challenged herself with this roadside plein air to “get out there and celebrate local farmers and local color” capturing this vibrant scene. Perched on a busy highway just before Hilton Head Island visitors get back to the interstate that runs from Florida to Massachusetts, this produce stand is a familiar sight in the community of Bluffton South Carolina. The artist felt it important to reproduce the feeling of the hand-lettered signs and the electric palette of bright orange peaches and tomato reds under cheerful beach umbrellas. The American flag adds the element of nostalgia and valor woven deep into the feel of this burgeoning small town.
