Sea Oat Blues
The artist speaks of this piece with an overt affinity for capturing the beauty of sea oats in a painting. A frequent subject in her body of work, she notes the “bright yellowness against the blue sky,” pairing one warm color against one cool; add “a few umbrellas on the beach and it screams of how beautiful our Hilton Head Island is in July and August.” Measuring a larger than average 60×48, Lovely describes taking on the size of this work as a challenge of pushing a traditional image into a larger frame; a larger four corners to present wider detail in one of her favorite elements to paint.
