Two Sugars Please
The first of the artist’s prolific collection of westie paintings, this piece also has a backstory that connects to Lovely’s commissioned portrait of First Lady Barbara Bush. “The first thing she said to me was, ‘Do you have a dog,’ which I felt was a gauge for whether she liked me, and I knew I had to get a dog. The next year I put my name on a list for my westie puppy Mack and his half brother.” The rest is history not only regarding the artist’s dogs, but the collection that ensued from painting them. This piece was created in the spring on Hilton Head Island South Carolina, the stark white of westie nearly obscured in an abundance of bluntly painted blossoms
