One of the most settled and substantive of Lovely’s “fair women on beachscapes,” this model is featured without the standard bows and baskets, and instead with conch and upturned “puff” hat, leaning against a calico of indigos and golds, which pull in the highlighted tones of the sea oats separating sand from sea. In the foreground further broken oats, vines, and reeds are added with chunky brush strokes, an appealing contrast to the elegant and effortless femininity of the primary subject.
