Mommy and Leslie
One of three studies and a sequel to the painting “Follow Me”, this piece shows the little girl’s mother to the faithful following of Westies. Lovely’s original commission of the little girl becomes more broadly experimental, interpretive, and chunky on this canvas, breaking the imagery into bolder, warm strokes pulling up into ROYGBIV diagonals at the horizon, creating a reflective rainbow of bright light hues and directing the eye to what the artist describes as “the hardest edge.”
