Boys Ahoy
One of three small studies of this scene, this sweet natured and soft-toned piece set the stage for the commissioned portrait that resulted from this sitting. The oldest boy holds the center, with the young behind literally and symbolically, the oldest teaching and leading, while leading the visual as well. The youngest of the three shows trepidation in his abstract expression as well as in the tension of body language while the middle age boy shows growth into curiosity and following.
