Night Skaters
One of the artist’s favorite subjects – Boston landmarks in winter – is featured here in its finest, intimately inviting form. Joining the skaters at the Boston Public Garden at twilight, Lovely describes, “your mind is taken away from everything except the beauty of being here, in this city. The night sky is advancing – it’s not totally black and you can still see the blue of the light in the sky, and the windows of lights turning on.” Lovely points out compositionally and tonally the piece is neither worm nor cool, but a mix of orange and blue created a muted winter cityscape with the Four Seasons and Boylston Street in the background.
